Charles Sharpe, who has been painting since the early 1970's, is a self-taught watercolor and oil painter who divides his time between Durham, NC, and Morehead City, NC, where he maintains studios. His style and technique have earned him full signature membership in the American Society of Marine Artists, Southern Watercolor Society, Watercolor Society of North Carolina, Watercolor West and Whiskey Painters of America. His paintings have been included in American Watercolor Society International Exhibitions in New York City, Adirondacks National Exhibitions of American Watercolors in New York, California Watercolor Association National Exhibition, South Carolina Watercolor Society and Georgia Watercolor Society Exhibitions. Charles has participated in exhibits at the N.C. State Fair where he won First, Second and Best of Show awards. Two of his watercolors are published in the book "Best of Watercolor: Painting Light and Shadow," and one of his watercolors has been selected for publication in the book Splash 11. His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections. For over 30 years, Charles has served as juror for several art exhibitions and has conducted watercolor workshops in which fundamentals of transparent watercolor are taught, stressing the use of sketches to produce complete and successful paintings.
