Dee Phillips, SWS, TWS
- OBITUARY: DEE PHILLIPS, past SW Membership Chair, died May 21, 2009
- It is with the deepest of sorrow that I have to announce the death of Dee Phillips, long time SW member and past Membership Chair. She served the Southern Watercolor Society for many years in that position and contributed greatly to the well being of our group. Dee reorganized our membership procedure to be very efficient. She was a great artist and teacher of watercolor classes in Austin Texas. The current Mebership Chairperson, Suzanne Fine, adds, " Her tremendous help and organizational skills with the Membership was wonderful. Dees attention to detail with the Membership, was also exhibited in her paintings as well." Eleanor Cox adds, "Dee was membership chairman when we had the show in Richmond and was delightful to work with. I can hardly imagine this great loss". Dee will be sorely missed by all of us. Her death was reported by her son Todd Phillips, texasvettwp@att.net
- A memorial service for Doris "Dee" Phillips will be held Friday, May 29 2009, at 2 pm at the Weed-Corley Fish Funeral Home located at 3125 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Tx 78705. Ph. 512-452-8811.
- The family asks that in lew of flowers a donation be made in Doris's name to the American Heart Association.
By embellishing her art with rich vibrant colors, Dee strives to reflect her inner feelings about life and its beauty sharing the experience of the moment with the viewer. The unique qualities of watercolor encourage personal expressions offering tremendous possibilities. Her commitment to this concept is to combine spirituality with reality in a way that the viewer can sense the energy manifest in the compositions. In this way, she is given the opportunity to connect with the viewer.
Dee's continuing study and participation in the active art field not only nurtures her creative ability but helps the artistic development of her students by bringing new ideas and techniques to them.
