Jane Hanck was born and raised in a small town in northern Michigan. She has lived and worked in the Triangle area since 1982. She received a B.A. in history from North Carolina State University in 1994. Jane first studied art at Delta College in Bay City, Michigan in the early 1970's. Her primary medium then was oils. Since 1987, watercolor has been her choice of medium. More recently she has discovered the joys of working with acrylic and collage. Her latest endeavor is writing and illustrating a children's book.
Jane is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina where she has served as exhibitions chair and president. She is also a member of the Southern Watercolor Society, Fine Arts League of Cary and Triangle Artists Guild where she serves as chair.
Her work has been juried into both local and national art exhibitions where she has won several awards. Her paintings hang in private collections in North Carolina, Georgia and Michigan. Several of her watercolors hang in a permanent collection at Western Wake Hospital in Cary, NC. Jane teaches watercolor at Jordan Hall Art Center in Cary, NC. She feels very honored to have one of her watercolors in the North Carolina Watercolor Society's 2009 traveling exhibition. Jane is also a participating artist in the Annual Western Wake Artists Studio Tour which showcases many of the areas' artists.
