MARION HYLTON: Saturday September 16, 2006 at Jackson Hole WY at the awards banquet for Arts for the Parks annual competition.
Marion recieved the Grand Prize ($25,000.00)!.  The painting is a pastel, "One of the Fallen", depicting the Little Bighorn National Battlefield site, and it can be seen at www.artsfortheparks.com.  This is a wonderful competition, and they are very nice people to deal with.  Information about the show is all on the website.

"I've been an active painter most of my life, creating works in the realist tradition. I sometimes work outdoors, but I prefer the solitude of my studio where I can concentrate on combining various elements from my photographs to form an interesting painting.  Drawing and composition are of primary importance to me, with color harmony following closely behind. I was fortunate in having an outstanding high school art teacher and with her help managed to win a four-year scholarship to the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. There I studied with the late Hilton Leech, an outstanding watercolorist after whom the art center in Sarasota was named.  I'm a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society and the Texas Watercolor Society.  My recent work, primarily portraits and landscapes, have included pastels, acrylics and oils, all of which I find challenging.  My paintings have won a number of awards in regional and national juried shows, and have been accepted into five of the Top 100 shows for Arts for the Parks.  In the year 2000, I won the Region III Arts for the Parks award, and in 2004, the Region I."
