ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a St. Louis-born artist, whose interest in art began with childhood drawings. Self-taught for the most part, I have also studied with several nationally-known artists in the United States in addition to some college class work in St. Louis. Usually I paint in water media on paper and frequently include collage material to complete the images -- consisting principally of my own prepainted and handmade papers.
Most of my recent work is semi-abstract and based on landscape forms and beautiful small bits of nature -- or occasionally on a philosophical statement. For me, each painting contains a mystery about time or events. One recent one was formed around the question, "Wouldn't it be great if 'global warming' meant the beginning of world peace?" My paintings are often included in national juried competitive exhibits and several paintings have been included in books on collage, on watercolor, or other art subjects as well as a local high school textbook. You can also find my work in several corporate collections, in the permanent collections of art museums in Iowa, in Arkansas, in California and in Europe. You will find an occasional collagraph or other print in my exhibits -- another of the artistic pursuits I love.
Signature Member of many organizations. Exhibits in 2000: MO Landscape Artists, Fulton, MO ; Visions in Ink, Churchill Memorial, Fulton, MO, and many group exhibits such as the recent WATERCOLOR 2000 in Houston, the recent (8/2000) St. Louis Watercolor Exhibit at CREATIVE GALLERY in St. Louis and others too numerous to include here. Featured artist in the American Artist Magazine WATERCOLOR, Winter 2001. Current plans include a probable workshop in Missouri, a web site attached to the Missouri Watercolor Society site, participation in plans for a local gallery, a two-person exhibit at the Harwell Museum, Poplar Bluff, MO, etc.
