Bio
My early interest in painting was largely interrupted by college, raising a family, and a career in Federal law enforcement. Retirement provided the opportunity and South Carolina a congenial locale, to take up brush to canvas again, and to studying under the guidance of such eminent watercolorists as Joye Moon and Judi Betts. Membership in the Elephant Ear Gallery, the Sumter Artists' Guild, West Texas Watercolor Society, South Carolina Watermedia Society, and the Southern Watercolor Society have provided invaluable exposure to innovative techniques and talents of fellow artists.
Encouraged by a handful of commissions and modest favor by judges, I have exhibited in a showing at the Water Lily Gallery in Summerton, and exhibited at the Franklin Square Gallery in Southport, NC, at the Weldon Center's Art Gallery in Manning, the Art Trail Gallery in Florence, the Bishopville Opera House, the South Carolina State Fair, and the Sumter County Fair.
My subject matter is eclectic, emphasizing the whimsical and nostalgic, both in watercolor and oil. I continue to experiment, especially in an effort to capture the effects of light on my subjects. Current efforts are mainly focused on a series of six canvases called "Southern Treasures," depicting South Carolina scenes that strike me as emblematic of my new home.
