ARTISTS STATEMENT
I have been painting for many years. There is still an excitement each time I start a new painting or learn a new technique. This is a wonderful journey of discovery that I have been lucky to share with like minded people. I get great satisfaction whenever someone tells me how much they enjoy my work. The satisfaction goes far beyond me actually painting the subject. I have taught at the local junior college to adults, and at my own studio in Gulf Breeze, The Copper Heron. It is always my desire to give students the skills to be able to translate what they see in their heads to the paper they use. My own work and subject matter varies greatly. The style I am most noted for, is my watercolors done in a representational format. The element that is most important to me in a painting is the range of value used and good design. If the value is wrong, there is no light or interesting shadows nor drama. A bad design leaves the viewer wondering what your intent was. The subjects range from landscapes, buildings, still life to floral. I think it is as important what you say in a painting, as what is left unsaid. I have noticed a trend in my work lately. I seem to be getting more non-objective when painting and at this time, it is an avenue I am exploring with water media and collage.
I have exhibited in many regional shows and won awards including Best of Shows and the Grumbacher Silver Medallion. My most recent award (2004) was the HK Holbien award from the Watercolor Society of Alabama . I received the Golden Addy, for my contribution of original art work for the cover of the Pensacola Symphony's campaign. I am a signature member of Florida Watercolor Society. A member of Northwest Florida Arts Council, National League of American Pen Women, Charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and many local art Groups.
