Judy Rider is a water media painter who has lived in Hickory since 1991. Prior to that time she resided in western Greenbrier Co., West Virginia. Since her introduction to watercolor medium in 1987, she has advanced her technique and style through workshops by professional artists and self-help books, as well as experimentation. Judy has participated in art workshops by nationally acclaimed artists for several years. She also teaches watercolor technique locally. She accepts commissioned work in florals, landscapes, children and pet portraits. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Judy was a member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, the Beckley Art Group, and the Greenbrier Artists. She exhibited yearly from 1987-1991 with Greenbrier Artists and Beckley Art Group. Judy is currently a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, the Piedmont Painters, the High Country Water media Society and associate member of the Southern Watercolor Society and Brush and Palette Club. Judy exhibits locally at Twisted Tree Gallery in Hickory and Art Walk in Boone, NC. Her work can be viewed on the Internet through and her own website: www.judyarts.com. Mrs. Rider teaches beginning watercolor classes for Catawba Valley Community College and Hickory Museum of Art. She participates year round in local and regional juried exhibits, including the Watercolor Society of North Carolina and the Southern Watercolor Society. Judy has been juried in to the prestigious "Art in the Park" Fine Arts Festival in Blowing Rock, NC in the past. Judy has a B.A. degree in English Education from Louisiana Tech University, and a M.A. degree in Secondary Classroom Teaching from West Virginia University. She is married to Thomas E.
