KATHY WALLISwebsite: www.kathywallisartbythesea.com Kathy Wallis has been painting for over 30 years. She uses a variety of mediums, but prefers watercolors. Ms. Wallis loves to paint landscapes, especially beach scenes, including lighthouses and scenes from the Gulf Coastal area. She began painting mini pictures in oil with Anne Hunter in Talladega, AL. Along with participating in art workshops, Kathy has studied with various well-known and accomplished artists, such as: Sarah Whitson of Talladega, AL in pastels, oils, acrylics; Wayne Spradley of Pell City, AL in watercolors; Margrete Vause of Panama City, FL in watercolors; and Don Taylor of Panama City, FL in watercolors. Kathy is a member of various professional art organizations, including The Southern Watercolor Socierty, The Visual Arts Center of Panama City, FL, The Panama City Artists, "Sarah's Girls" in Talladega, AL and many other artist groups. It has always been Kathy's dream to "move to the beach and paint". She now lives in the panhandle of Florida and is working on her dream and other projects. Memories of Camp Helen 18 "x 28" displayed in my art studio at Laguna Beach Memories Camp Helen is located on the most western side of Bay County. It is now a state park, but in the 1950's and 1960's it was owned by Avondale Mills in Sylacauga, AL. The company used it as a vacation camp for its employees. I know many people that have lots of cherished memories of staying at Camp Helen. My husband is from Talladega, AL which is about 20 miles from Sylacauga. We lived and raised our children in Talladega. I taught school for many years close to Sylacauga and Avondale Mills. Camp Helen is a beautiful place and many people don't know it is there. It is a hidden gem on the Emerald Coast. The ocean is located close by this lake scene. |

Bethel Church 15 " x 18 " displayed in my home. This is the church and cemetery that my, deceased, mother-in-law's (Milton Howell Wallis) ancestors started. They settled with the Indians in the Howell's Cove area, Talladega County, AL, The Howell's donated this land for the church and cemetery. I remember visiting the church and cemetery many times. Unfortunately, the current members of Bethel Church tore it down and rebuilt a new church in an area close by. I found a newspaper print of the old church, black and white, to use to draw the church. I later took a picture of the area, without the church, to get the church and cemetery placement, along with the foliage colors. 30"x 40" Watercolor $4,800.00 |
